Event Description

You're invited to Studio Kiin x Baka Books Writers Workshop

Writing Your Own Narrative for Performance - Unlock your storytelling potential at our Writers Workshop—a hands-on creative journey blending the vibrant traditions of talanoa with modern narrative techniques for literature. Whether you're just starting out or looking to hone your skills, join us at the Civic Centre for an inspiring workshop where every story finds its spark.

Workshop details

This interactive workshop, facilitated by Emele Ugavule, is designed for emerging writers who want to craft personal or fictional narratives for performance. Through guided exercises, discussion, and practical exploration, participants will learn how to shape their writing into compelling, performative pieces. This is for you if you are interested in writing for theatre or screen. Worksheets will be provided for participants.

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand the core elements of a strong performance narrative.

  • Explore techniques for crafting voice, rhythm, and emotion in writing.

  • Develop confidence in writing stories meant to be heard, not just read.

  • Experiment with different modes of storytelling.

  • Receive constructive feedback on their work-in-progress.
